History
St. Benedict School was established in Southeast San Antonio in 1959. Today the school continues to provide excellence in Christian education. It enjoys a wonderful ethnic, cultural and denominational mix of students. The school community is part of the parish family of St. Benedict Church, whose members have faithfully supported the school for some 45 years.

Mission Statement
St. Benedict Catholic School provides a quality Catholic Christian education in an orderly learning environment serving a multi-cultural and multi-faith student body.

Philosophy

St. Benedict School admits students of every religion, race, color, sex, handicap and national or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities of the school.

The school is dedicated to the mental, physical, moral and spiritual growth of each child.

The school is committed to the development of the whole child through understanding and acceptance of her/his cultural and social background.

Code of Conduct
Catholic education believes that self-discipline, a healthy self-image, a positive attitude towards learning, and concern for people are valid to each child’s development. All students are expected to adhere to the basic rules of orderly conduct. School policies and regulations are outlined in the Student/Parent Handbook, which has been developed by the School Council and is given to each family.

Parental/Guardian Involvement
A very active Parent/Teacher Club (PTC) assists in school affairs and meets bi-monthly during the school year. Parents/Guardians are invited to visit the school at any time, but must sign-in and get a visitor pass at the School..

The school mascot—the raven—is taken from the story of St. Benedict. It is said that when Benedict was living as a spiritual hermit in a cave, ravens would bring food to him. He later emerged from his solitude and founded the Benedictine Order of Monks. St. Benedict is the patron saint of school children.

The school believes that Catholic education is important in every aspect of life: spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional and social. All of these aspects of life are to be developed if we are to follow Christ’s call to become whole.

The school also believes that parents are the primary educators, working as partners with teachers, to realize the goals of good Christian education. The school has an active Parent/Teacher Club (PTC).

Religious Education

St. Benedict School is a community where teachers and students together experience what it means to live a life of prayer, personal responsibility and freedom that is reflective of the biblical/gospel values.

Daily classroom prayer and instruction, as well as a weekly school liturgy, are essential components of the education process. Non-Catholic students also join in this aspect of education as they, too, help shape our faith community.

Religious education fosters the integration of religion and living. It enables students to address with Christian insight the life they live and share. Religious education orients the student to be of service to others.

Curriculum
The school’s curriculum is in accordance with the guidelines from the Archdiocese of San Antonio Schools’ Office, and is designed to cover the Texas Essential Knowledge Assessment (TEKS) as prescribed by the Texas Education Agency (TEA)
Accreditation
St. Benedict Catholic School is fully accredited by the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department, under the guidlines of the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
